OVERVIEW:

As a member of the Library's management team, under the supervision of the Information Technology manager, this employee provides technical support and expertise to implement and maintain the Library's electronic environment; assists with daily operation and maintenance of Library computer systems.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: (may include, but are not necessarily limited to)

Supervise the daily operation of Library computer systems including resolving and troubleshooting problems with computer hardware, software, and LAN/WAN connectivity. Address and resolve technical difficulties arising from hardware and/or software. Research, purchase, and install compatible hardware and software applications. Perform computer system diagnostics, maintenance, and backup routines. Develop procedures that ensure network and workstation stability, security, and performance. Evaluate and recommend software applications according to Library needs. Supervise the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the Library's Web site. Maintain and increase knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, and training seminars. Maintain a County purchasing card account and comply with applicable purchase procurement code. Conduct purchase operations in compliance with Weber County purchasing policies and Utah state law. Supervise employees in preserving the safety, appearance, and maintenance of Library facilities and property. Perform management duties related to daily operations, employees, and activities. Provide feedback/input on employee performance. Make and implement decisions according to a formalist system of ethics.

ABOUT YOU:

Graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, or a combination of education, training, and significant work experience.

Certifications in A+ and Network +

Working knowledge of database development and administration.

At least two years of progressive experience working directly with networks, servers, virtualization and database administration.

Library experience preferred.

YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of backup technology. Substantial knowledge of computer network operations and maintenance, including LAN/WAN. Ability to develop and administer databases. Familiarity with Web Site creation and maintenance. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, OSX, and Linux. Knowledge of hardware and software purchasing, installation, configuration, and maintenance. Knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software. Knowledge of VoIP telecommunications. Knowledge of wireless technologies, such as NFC, RFID, and WIFI. Ability to understand computer specifications. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and online documentation. Tactfully interact with and respond to employee and patron technical problems. Flexibility and a willingness to work in a fast-paced, team environment. Meticulous attention to detail, personal initiative, and problem-solving ability. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects or tasks with frequent interruption. A commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively with a diverse patron base. Knowledge of Library Board policies and administrative procedures. Understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of Library divisions and buildings. Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community. Understanding of foundational library documents, including the Library Bill of Rights, Code of Ethics, and the Freedom to Read Statement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk, hear, crouch, crawl, balance, reach, stoop, and kneel.  Must use hands and fingers to operate a computer.  The employee is regularly required to lift up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally up to fifty pounds.  Must be able to move about the work area, talk clearly with customers, and hear customer responses.  Must have excellent close vision and good distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a business office environment.  Some local travel will be required for on-site maintenance, installations, training, and service at the Library's five buildings. Employees must be able to work rotating shifts (seven days a week) and flexible hours (morning, afternoon, evening, and holiday hours) when the Library is open. All employees will work up to two evenings per week and will alternate weekend shifts with the other employees in their division. Employees will also work holiday hours of equal proportion to those of other employees in their division. Professional employees (Administrators, Business Managers, Librarians, and Specialists) are exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. They may be required to adjust their work schedules and responsibilities to accommodate emergencies, special projects, etc.; and to cover for those employees who may be on vacation, sick leave, etc.
